About to Pop: Karmina

Michelle Williams, 'Unexpected'
CBS Records
Who: Karmina
Album: 'Backwards Into Beauty'
Video: 'The Kiss'
Hails From: San Francisco, CA
For Fans Of: Sarah McLachlan and Alanis Morissette

Why They're About to Pop: Karmina, meaning "song in Latin," is comprised of sisters Kelly (piano/vocals) and Kamille Rudisill (guitar/vocals). At the young ages of 8 and 10, their mother enrolled girls in the San Francisco Conservatory of Music, where they were classically trained in voice and learned music theory and composition. As teens, the Kelly and Kamille won a Disney-sponsored contest, which helped them land song placements in TV shows like 'Summerland' and 'Girlfriends.' The singing sisters then went to college together at the Thornton School of Music at the University of Southern California, playing L.A.-area shows in their downtime. Their demo of melodic alt-pop ditties eventually landed them a recording contract with CBS records, and now Karmina's uniquely enchanting debut single, 'The Kiss,' has been featured on 'The Hills,' and '90210.'
